What is Moving Minds?

Moving Minds 5 is part of a wider Strategic Commissioning project, jointly funded by Dept. for Education and Skills (DfES) and Dept. for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). Strategic Commissioning projects aim to inspire and engage young people by using museum collections and experimental ways of learning, and to make connections between regional and national museums.

The Moving Minds project explored themes of self and group identity by looking at Falklands experiences from the IWM collections and by talking to veterans. Topics included mob rule, group behaviour and the influence of gangs. We looked at the ‘hidden histories’ within the collections by using the stories of Commonwealth veterans and differences in culture that means these stories aren’t told to a greater degree.
