The general number of people who left Latvia to EU is unknow, because facts are so different. It changes from 60'000 till 109'000. One thing is clear, the biggest number of emigrants from Latvia is in Ireland - about 11 000 people. In generally about 400 - 500 people leave Latvia every month. For such a small country as Latvia it is a lot! About 300 people come to Latvia a month. So, now we loose more then 100 people every month (In December 2005 it was 29 people, but in December 2007- already 110). Migration researchers forecast that in 10 years Latvia will lose 200 000 people.

I agree with Chaz90 that we see disadvantages more often. In my opinion, we must think about this issue from other hand too. I mean that the worst problem has something positive. What benefits country, government and people can get from migration situation? For example, in country where emigratns are involving in labour market, GDP grow faster.

I completely agree with Homo sapiens sapiens about the reasons of going to Ireland. Of course, the main reason of this action is a good salaries, people emigrate from Latvia believe that there they will have better life. At the same tima I have to say that before leaving our native place everyone should think about their relatives and friends, because they really care about those who are leaving. Second thing what I would like to say is that emigrants should think about their safety in another country, for example, in Ireland, because many people have already experinced the violence which comes from some intolerant natives.
