How is Radiowaves different from YouTube or Facebook and those sites?
Radiowaves is fundamentally different from other sites because it is a safe social network designed especially for education and school broadcasting. Only young people aged 5-19 and their CRB checked teaching staff can join and upload. Unlike You Tube or Facebook which are open to anyone to post anything they like. With Radiowaves you can benefit from being able to showcase your pupils internet radio school videos, blogs and podcasts to the public or others schools BUT you don’t have to worry about safety, if it’s suitable for school broadcasting or who has access to your pupils.
Who else uses Radiowaves?
Over 1000 schools already use Radiowaves to safely broadcast school podcasts and blogs. You will be joining†a vibrant community of schools and organisations from around the world. As well as schools we work with organisations such as museums, charities and government departments to give Radiowaves members unique access to projects, competitions, resources and campaigns.
How is Radiowaves safe?
Only schools and organisations working with young people can join Radiowaves. We ensure everyone has a current CRB enhanced certifcate or international equivalent. Teachers check and approve all content on the site and choose who can see what. We monitor activity and content on teh site as well. The public cannot access any personal information about pupils. Any public comments are checked by our own CRB checked staff. For more information on our safety policies or if you have any particular concerns please contact us on 0113 246 9989/hello@radiowaves.co.uk
How do I join?
Choose the package that best suits you and fill out the registration form. To keep Radiowaves safe we will need to do some checks before we can activate your account—this usually takes 1 working day. Once your account has been activated you can create pupil pages and start uploading your school podcasts, and blogs straight away.
I’m a CLC/PFS Centre can I use Radiowaves?
Yes! We also have some great packages specially designed for CLCs and PFS centres and other similar organizations. Call us on 0113 2469989 to find out more.
Do you provide Training?

What is the 1MB/1GB/Unlimited Space bit about?
This is how much content such as audio, video and pictures you can put on your site. You get 60MB free with Basic, 1GB with Plus+ and there are no limits at all with Pro!
What happens when I reach my limit?
A fuel tank type gauge on the site tells you exactly how much space you have left. If you reach your limit you will not be able to upload any more content until you delete something or upgrade—unless your on Pro! then you dont have to worry about limits . You and your pupils will still be able log in and use other features of the site and join in all the activities.
How do I upgrade?
You can upgrade anytime via the website or by calling us on 0113 2469989.

What can I do with Radiowaves?
You decide! Radiowaves lets your pupils create multimedia stories that can include video, audio, text and pictures. You can use it across the curriculum in or out of school to embed ICT, bring subjects to life and engage learners whether they are difficult to reach or gifted and talented.
Is it really free?
Yes! Radiowaves Basic lets you create your own free school website, unlimited pupil accounts and safely publish up to 6OMB of school videos and podcasts for free. If you find you need more space or want to use the more advanced features such as customising your website then you can upgrade at any time.
Is Basic like a trial version? Do I have so many days to try it?
No! Radiowaves Basic is yours to keep for as long as you want. We want you and your pupils to be a real part of the Radiowaves community forever… not just as visitors!
My school is based outside of the UK can we still join?
Yes! Radiowaves is an international community. We have members from all round the world and we welcome non-UK schools on Radiowaves. It may take us a bit longer to check your details so please give us as much info as you can. If you would like to speak to us about joining please contact us on hello@radiowaves.co.uk or +44 113 2469989.

I’m a community group can I use Radiowaves?
Yes but not for free… to ensure safety we need to do some extra checks for community groups. This creates more administration for us and so we need to charge £100 admin fee for joining Radiowaves Basic. We will waive the admin fee if you purchase a Plus or Pro package. For more information or to discuss your organisations status please contact us.
Do you provide recording equipment?
Yes! we can supply high quality, school friendly MP3 recorders, Video cameras and microphones. For more information see our Equipment section or call us on 0113 2469989.
How much audio or video does that mean?
Average MP3 files are about 1MB for 1 minute. Compressed Video such as Windows Movie Files or Quick Time Movies are about 4MB for each minute. The exact amounts will depend on how much you compress your files but this is a fairly good guide. This means you can upload about 1 hour of podcasts with Basic, 16 Hours with Plus+ and as much as you want with Pro!
Can I delete things?
Yes. If you want to free up space on your site you can delete things but it may be easier to upgrade—that way you get much more space, you keep all your content and you get loads of new features.
Can I downgrade?
You can downgrade at the end of your subscription if you really want to. You wont lose any content but you will lose any extra features and if you are above the upload limit you may not be able to upload any new work.
