This is a little blog about some of my family history. This is about my Nan. (great grandma) and her Dad William Herbert Nicholls. In 1917 Wilfred got called to go to war. He was called late because he had a family with young cvhildren but eventually he had to go. Because my Nan was the oldest of the 3 children she is the only one to remember all this happening.
I dont know if she heard from him alot during his time in the war or not.
She remembers when his regiment came back home and seeing all her friends and the other familys greet their dads and husbands. But hers wasnt there. She got very upset as you can imagion. Her mum gave her some money so she could get some sweets.
Her mum didn't remarry because she would lose her pension so she brought up the 3 girls by herself with a bit of help from the church.
Wilfred was in Baghdad at war and they say he died of sunstroke. This effected my Nan as i am told she is afraid of the sun and doesnt like going outside.
I would say this effected my family as my Nan and everyone in my family believes in the fact of having fathers to help bring up children and to support their familys. My grandad was probably the most effected by this as he never had a grandad when he was a child which all his grandchildren have had so he missed out on a main part of his childhood.
