Dear Lynk — enjoyed seeing your photographs.
Re your concern about spicy Thai food . . . under no circumstances order anything named Thom Yam unless, if you get further than the first mouthful, you can deal with the whole nature of your life being changed! Always ask for "no spicey" or "mai pet."
Once, in India, we requested 'no spicey' and the waiter said, "We say MILD." Three days later, at the same restaurant, we asked for 'mild' and he smiled ingratiatingly and said, "You mean no spicey?"

And, is Western culture infiltrating Thai life? Are they cherry-picking from our culture as we have picked out curries from Indian culture? Don't look for 'us,' watch them and their way of life. Reading a copy of the Bangkok Post gives a little indication of how important the West is to them. Watch a Thai soap on TV.

Do you feel any connection to them?
