Do you know what's on your dinner plate tonight?
It feels like these days what goes on our plates is under more scrutiny than ever. First it was Jamie’s School Dinners, then along came healthy bacteria, traffic lights on food labels and a free range campaign led by, yep, Jamie Oliver.
So how bad was the food we ate 10 years ago? You can’t move in the supermarket without seeing Reduced Salt, No Saturated Fat and other promises of nutritional value.
Obesity levels are on the rise, especially in children, as more and more kids choose computer games and the internet over sports and playing outdoors. Was the food really that bad for us, or are we just getting less exercise?
And how many people know where their food actually came from? Would you pay a little extra to see animals treated humanely before we eat them, or do you not care as long as it tastes good?
This is a massive topic. From battery hens to chips for dinner, there are loads of stories here. Does your school have healthy dinners? Is the food free range and organic? Are you getting your five fruit and veg portions a day? What questions would you ask Jamie Oliver if you had the chance to interview him?
