Brooklands v Chelmsford
On the 2nd of February Brooklands Manchester University Hockey Club travelled to Essex to take on Chelmsford in the Slazenger England Hockey League division 1. The trip to Chelmsford was described by player/coach John Bell as a 'potential banana skin' for Brooklands, who were in the hunt for promotion to take them into the Slazenger Premier League and in to the European Challenge Cup. However Brooklands came through the task with a very professional performance by the team. First half goals from captain Andrew Howse and England u-21 starlet, Peter Flanagan set the Georges Road side on thir way. Shortly before the break, yet another England trainee, Pete Jackson scored to make the score 3-0 to the away side. Peter Flanagan added a fourth just before the full time whistle, a comfortable 4-0 victory for the promotion chasing Brooklands. Brooklands will now travel to North London for a top of the table clash against Southgate, a special fixture for player/coach John Bell as he left the London club for Brooklands just over a year ago.
