A man with a great career and a very nice guy to takt to.
I thought that I would tell the radiowaves audience who Mike Shaft actually is. He was at the Lauch Evening at Manchester United's Football Ground and he was also at BBC Manchster aswell when we had our tour.
Mike was born in Greneda in the West Indies but has lived in the North West of England since 1968. He began he broadcasting career at Picadilly Radio, Manchester in 1978. Mike worked for Picadilly Radio for 8 years presenting a weekday show during the most successful radio in the history of the station. Mike was probably best known for his soul show 'Taking care of business'. Mike joined BBC Manchester in 1987 as a soul music presenter. Mike was offered a job on a BBC T.V. show called 'Open Air'. Mike left the BBC in 1989 to set up Sunset Radio which was aimed at ethnic minorities in Manchester. Mike left Sunset in 1990 and has since worked for radio stations such as Marcher Sound, Picadilly Gold and Wear FM just to name a few. He also co-presented a television series called 'One World'. In 1997, Mike was approached by Sky to be the lead commentator on their Brittish Basketball programmes. He worked for Sky for 3 and a half years. Mike worked on the 2002 Commenwealth Games in Manchester and now presents radio shows on Sunday mornings for BBC Manchester. Mike also continues to present play-by-play for the Sheffield Sharks.
Mike then added that he will be commentating on Brittish Basketball matches on Setanta Sports at the beginning of March so you should look out for him.
To summarise, Mike Shaft is a great man with a great history and is also a really nice guy to talk to aswell.
