I thought that I would report on my local basketball team, The Crevers.
I thought that I would report on my local basketball team, The Crevers.
First of all, a little bit of information on the Crevers. They play at Manor High School on Saturday mornings. They are a fairly new team and play in the under 18 Trafford league. They are currently 6th but have hit a rich vein of form and are climbing up the table.
So, The Crevers are playing their fierce rivals in the Sale derby. I interviewed club captain James Dyde. I asked him:
Do you feel confident of a victory today?
"Yes I do, I feel a bit nervous yet I know we can beat these guys."
What do you think of the opposition players?
“They are confident, maybe too confident, they must know they can’t win this game”
How do you think new signing Gareth Jeffries is doing?
“Gareth is coming along well, so I am sure he will play well for the team. He is getting more time n the court so all he has to do now is start listening to the encouraging instructions from the bench and his team mates. ”
I asked the some another member of the team how they felt before the game:
Tom Phillips:
“I feel a little bit nervous as it is the derby game but I know we can win”
The game started at a fast tempo with The Crevers winning the tip-off. They took an early lead with Tom Phillips scoring some nice lay-ups. Andy kept hitting I.W.B. on the fast break with good drives and he scored a few baskets in the process. I.W.B. responded with a few good attacks of their own but The Crevers held strong with good defence and some recovered rebounds. Captain, James Dyde was putting in 110% effort, working hard, winning rebounds and racking up a number of steals. Alex Lee and Mahbud Khatir were passing the ball well and retaining possession. The Crevers kept working hard and this was shown when new signing Gareth Jeffries scored his first basket for his new team. The Crevers went into half time with a comfortable 42 – 23 lead.
The second half started with a flurry of attacks with both The Crevers and I.W.B. both looking for points. Jake made some good drives and extended The Crevers lead. I.W.B. started to notice this and set up their star player Harrison to man-mark Jake. It was a fierce contest between the two with some great moves and good blocks. Harrison started to score with some good lay-ups. Captain, James Dyde was restricted from making his great defensive performances as he was on four fouls. The Crevers settled the I.W.B. attempted comeback and finished the game with he score at 63 - 45.
I caught up with some James Dyde after the game.
Do you think The Crevers can keep up this great form?
“Well we have got the ability and I just hope the great form can continue”
So The Crevers notch up another win and things are looking good for them. I will continue reporting on the team, as I know their fans are waiting for match reports!
