This is a subjct that really shocks me and I think it is important that people know how dangerous it is!
I know this may seem like a topic that seems to come up everyday and teachers and parents blab on about it but it is really important. I believe that teenagers and even parents don't know enough about blogging on the Internet and all of the dangers.
Let me start by telling you a story. . .
The other day I was on the Internet and I typed "Eduardo's leg" into the google images search engine because all of the people at school were talking abut it even though it happened ages ago but I hadn't seen it. The results were boring pictures of Eduardo layed on the floor and medics around him so you couldn't see his leg!
As I was so eager to see his leg, I scrolled down and clicked on the next page icon. This is when I realised something. At the top of the page was a person who didn't look like Eduardo so I clicked on picture and it took me to somebody's Bebo blog.
This was not a picture of Eduardo, but a picture of some random boy who probably didn't know his picture was posted worldwide. He seemed nice by the pictures but I didn't talk to him - I never talk to strangers. On his Bebo blog, it showed things like his likes and dislikes, pictures of him and all of his friends, his conversations with them and links to their Bebo blogs. This really scared me and I didn't think that the boy knew that his picture and many others of his freinds were shown and everyone could access it even if they didn't have a Bebo blog!!
This is why I think the Internet isn't as safe as people think! Some blog sites on the Internet are not safe and I think parents should be more alert about what their children are doing on the Internet. I am not telling people that they shouldn't make blogs and that the Internet is always a bad thing! I am not saying that Bebo is a unsafe website, I am only making people aware of the dangers of the Internet and blogs. Blogs are not always bad as long as you know who is looking at your pictures and your personal details and how to keep them safe!
Parents - be sure to check what your child is doing on the Internet and if you are unsure of what any website does, then be sure to find out more about the website itself.
Children/teenagers - do not create any bolgs or other personal web pages if you think the website or domain is unsafe. Check to see if your images will be seen worldwide! Always find more information on the website if you have an concerns!
