It's all for a good cause, but are you suffering from Charity Fatigue?
It’s Sport Relief March 14th, a chance for us all to both get some exercise and raise some money. Funds raised from this event will go to some of the poorest people both in this country and in others.
A worthy cause, there’s no doubt about it. But are we suffering from Charity Fatigue? Are there too many “worthy causes” out there? Does giving money to charity put our mind at ease when we should be trying to make a real difference?
Some people argue that money given to charities doesn’t get to those who really need it, and there’s nothing more irritating than being pushed to donate money by street volunteers with clipboards. But are we just not giving enough? Shouldn’t we be giving our money to those who need it all year round, not just once every few months when there’s some silly costumes on display?
This is another big topic, and as always we want to know what you think. Leave a comment to tell us your views, and get researching a story on how charities work in your area. Is your school doing anything for Sport Relief? Do your classmates care where their donations end up?
Get thinking, and get reporting!
