Facing major problems on the first day

On Thursday the 27th of March, 2008, Terminal 5 officially opened to the public. Terminal 5 is operated by British Airways only. Millions of people booked to have a good start to their holiday by going to the new terminal. Everyone was excited to go and see it - it was going to be the next best thing ... was!!

Some of the problems being faced were the bags weren't being aloud onboard the aircraft apart from hand luggage, staff didn't know where to go...let alone the passengers..., the conveyor belt broke down and over 80 flights have been cancelled between when the terminal opened and now.

BAA and BA are saying that this problem will carry onto the weekend and smaller problems facing all of these issues will carry on for the next few months.

I think this is awful as all of this had to happen on the first day. It, I think is mainly BA's fault as they should have done checks on all of the machines and trained the staff where everything is before opening the terminal. Over £4.5 billion has been spent on this new terminal but now it might have to be a few billion pounds more to fix all of the problems.

I have seen your article on Radiowaves, here in New York and I agree with you Terminal 5 at Heathrow is a joke. Towards the end of last week, I travelled from T5 on a BA flight and it was worst than a third world country’s airport. There were no announcements, no managers and those whom spoke with had a “don’t care attitude” – one said that “what do you expect – this is London and a new airport – at least this terminal was opened by the Queen. Up until now I was a frequent traveller on BA, between London and New York – but after last week – BA can forget my custom – from now I will travel on a different airline - a sensible company!!!

On Saturday 29 March, BBC News 24 reported that over 15,000 bags were stranded at T5 and cameras aren’t allowed to film inside the terminal building – Only to say that BA are so embarrassed about the whole situation. What is the future looks like now – I only ask the CEO?

The CEO should now resign as the mess by BA carries on.

I agree -

What is this country good at – we can’t cope with a bit of rain, little snow the whole country comes to a standstill and when the sun comes out- so does sun bathers – but the country too comes to a stand-still – complaining that its to hot.

T5 costed £4.5billion, for months it went through users testing and the Chief Executive was so proud yesterday morning, but he wasn’t to be seen in the afternoon or as thinks started going tough for him – Last night he sent his director of operations to apologies – shouldn’t he himself have come on TV – well he did when recently a BA plane made an emergency landing. This is what all leaders go – “asks someone else to do their dirty job” and when thinks are glowing – they “show” off.
