How eating bugs could help the Earth?
Scientists want us to eat insects to save the planet!
They say that eating bugs, such as spiders and grasshoppers, is much better for the Earth than eating usual meat. I still can't believe it!!!
Insects are eaten in 113 countries worldwide and we are the "weirdos" for not eating them.
Studies have shown that bugs are full of goodness such as protein and other nutrients. And they have less of the bad stuff, such as fat and cholesterol, in them.I know, yucky but completely healthy!
In some countries insects are luxury foods and cost a lot in restaurants. For instance, a plate of maguey worms – larvae of a giant butterfly – would cost £12.50 in a smart restaurant in Mexico. Large ants are popular in Colombia. And, wait for it! Rice with wasps was the favourite meal of Japan’s Emperor Hirohito. Beleive me this is ALL true!
Livestock such as cows, sheep and pigs cause more than a third of methane emissions, which is a greenhouse gas adding to global warming. And they are responsible for a lot of carbon dioxide emissions, too. Farm animals also need lots of food, water and room to move, with grazing lands taking up a quarter of the land globally.
Insects only need tiny amounts of water, food and space. You never kbnow by 2013 we could be eating bugs galore!!!
