Missiles will be fired into the moon to find out more about it.
British scientists have shot penetrator missiles at a wall of sand, designed to act in the same way as the moon’s surface. They are so happy with the results of the tests that, with some fine-tuning, the missiles will be fired at the moon in 2013.
Four missiles will be aimed at the moon. They won’t explode on impact like missiles usually do. Instead they will remain intact and travel three metres under ground. Inside the missiles will be scientific instruments which will gather information about the moon. This will be beamed back to Earth for scientists to analyse. How cool! Even if it is a long way away!
