An insight to behind the scenes at Le Grand Cirque at The Lowry.
27/08/08 – A few hours away from curtain call. This day was the dress rehearsal, a tense day of run-throughs, costume changes and fun?
No! Fun was not on the agenda for the Cast and Crew, just a day full of crucial, last minute rehearsals and myself, Danika, Gemma and Sareda got to see how a magnificent show like Le Grand Cirque gets put together.
First of all we got to meet Francesca who works in the Lowry Press Office, she introduced us to Kelly Williams the Company Manager for Le Grande Cirque. We got to hear her views on the differences between performing and running a show in the circus.
When we mention circus, we automatically think tents, clowns and animals. But this isn’t a circus just for children- this is a show full of highly talented world-class gymnasts, dancers and performers who are passionate and skilled and love what they do.
The physical strength needed to perform some of the acts is unbelievable and the training regimes are as intense as any Olympic athletes...
There are a list of things that are needed to be able to perform in Le Grand Cirque and these are;
Strength
Imagination
Grace
And Sensuality.
The dress rehearsal was all about the glitzy costumes, wacky make-up and rhythmic dances to make this show stopping performance perfect.
It was an amazing opportunity to see the performers do what they do best and also to see what its like behind the scenes before we watch the show.
We had a great day even if our hearts were in our throats for most of it!
