Chris Ryan, a war hero and author, a deadly combination. You may have heard of Chris Ryan, he was involved in a daring escape mission from Iraq, he later wrote a book called "The One That Got Away" about it (It's a great read). He retired from the army and started writing books about his experiences and sometimes he just imagines them. Most of his books are for adults but he started writing books for children. These books are the "CODE RED" series and consist of some of the best action/adventure books out there for our age group. Wildfire is one of the best books in the series in my opinion.
"Ben gets the chance for a trip of a lifetime, when his mum is invited to attend a big UN-sponsored conference in Australia. In the midst of a summer drought, it's hot. And, it's dry. Drier than it's been for years. And, it only takes a spark to set off a fire...As world leaders gather and a student demo gathers pace, a small flame takes hold - and suddenly an unquenchable fire bursts into life and an inferno of flames up to l00 metres high tear through the streets, threatening homes and lives..."
What you just read was the blurb. Basically,
the book is about a boy called Ben who gets caught in a GIANT wildfire in Australia while he is flying a microlight, not good. The plot is thrilling and it has some heart-pounding, blood-pumping moments. I think that Chris Ryan's experiences have really helped bring this book to life and you really feel like you are in the action, it's fantastic.
The book is aimed at younger people and is to short for teenagers but for younger kids it's great. If you enjoy this book then there are other "CODE RED" books available, just search on Amazon.
I would give this:
7/10
