Three men talked and operated the slide show in the PE Hall and upstairs. They told us about the army, navy and air force. The described what happened in a crisis and what role the government takes. They told us how much equipment costs.
We split into 2 groups. They showed us a ration pack which would last for 1 day. It had chewing gum, tissues, pudding etc. We were told about an imaginary crisis. We had to come up with a plan of action for rescuing British citizens. We discussed and wrote out our plans. We then chose a speaker and presented our plan to the group. We sat at a table as the government and answered questions from the rest of the group (who acted as journalists).
The Food Presentation
We split into two groups. One stayed in the playbarn and one went into Mrs Hall’s room. The man told us about how much a soldier needed to eat. They make different food packs for vegetarians, Muslims, or anyone who has a special diet. Women are given the same amount as men. They showed boats bringing food in. The MOD also feed the homeless in disaster areas. The man showed us a ration pack. It came in a small box and there was enough for one day. Some of the things in the box were chewing gum, tissues, a sachet of beans and hamburger, lucozade, matches and hot drinks. They have a small gas cooker and they use mess tins. They are not allowed to carry lots of tins in case they fall and break their ribs. At the end they gave us all a pen.
Next…
We split up into groups and we came up to a classroom. We watched a video about a “pretend disaster” happening in a country abroad. We then got into small groups; in my group were Anthony, Stephen, and me. We had to make a plan to get the British people out of the country and stop the crisis. We could use planes, boats, and soldiers. We had to discuss what would work to try to avoid fighting. My group just wanted to drop a bomb and kill all the bad folk but the man taking the class from the MoD said we weren’t allowed to do this. At the end everybody had to join together and go down to the playbarn. Each group read out their plans of how the would fix the crisis if they were the government.
