Yes, it's that time of year again . . . Wimbledon! The championships wimbledon, or more simply wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament and also the most popular. It has been held at the all England club in the London suburb of Wimbledon since 1877. It is one of the 4 grand slam tournaments and the only one still played on grass courts. The other grand slam tournaments are the u.s open, australian open and the french open. The tournament lasts two weeks and is usually played in late june and early july. Five major events are contested, as well as four junior events and four invitational events.
Wimbledon traditions include the eating of strawberries and cream, royal patronage, and a strict dress code for competitors. Play has often been interrupted by rain, though delays are set to be reduced with the fitting of a retractable roof to Centre Court.
Previous winners of Wimbledon are Rafeal Nadal who one Wimbledon for the first time in 2008 but has had to pull out of Wimbledon 09 because of a knee injury, Roger Federer who is a five time winner to match Bjorn Borg who also won Wimbledon 5 times in a row!!the champion before Feder was Lleyton Hewitt of Australia who won in 2002.
