“Flying Cundy” breaks 200 record

Fitting tribute given to Cundy as he smashes his own record…

Jody Cundy
Today I caught the final day of action from the BT Paralympic World Cup 2009 cycling events. I entered the packed Manchester Velodrome to an explosion of noise from adults and local schoolchildren alike. All the crowd were nervously waiting for the main event and to see if Jody Cundy of Great Britain could trim his current record. At the press conference earlier in the week, S2R reporters managed an exclusive scoop with Jody himself. It was here that he confirmed the ambitious target that he had set himself to achieve. He was aiming to break the 11 second barrier. This achievement would be quite amazing, given the fact that Olympic greats such as Sir Chris Hoy only manage the Flying 200 in just under 10 seconds.

I tried to catch Jody before the race to get his impressions about how training had gone and how prepared he was for the event. He said he’d rather “settle down and get in the zone” but he went on to say that he would come and speak exclusively to me after the Team Sprint, which would be the completion of his programme. Check out my video to find out what the fans, coaches and Man of the Moment thought about the Record Attempt……
